“Nordic Conference on the Conflict in Western Sahara" – how can the conflict be resolved before it escalates?”

Det har ulmet længe, medens det internationale samfund har haft øjnene rettet andetsteds. Nu har de to stridende parter POLISARIO og Marokko efter 20 års våbenhvile genoptaget den væbnede konflikt. Der er risiko for, at krigen breder sig til hele Vestsahara og Nordafrika med mange dræbte, sårede og flygtninge som det direkte resultat. Indirekte vil krigen kunne medføre store økonomiske og sociale omkostninger for de involverede lande og befolkningen, som i forvejen ofte lever i dyb fattigdom.

Begge parter i konflikten – Marokko og POLISARIO - har sagt ja til at sende repræsentanter til konferencen. Konferencen sætter nyt lys på konflikten og dens årsager. Hvordan ser det ud med menneskerettighederne? Hvad siger parterne og FN? Hvilke muligheder har FN og de nordiske lande for at bidrage til en retfærdig og fredelig afslutning på krigen?

Oplægsholderne har dyb indsigt i konflikten og personlige holdninger til mulige løsninger, som deltagerne vil få mulighed for at drøfte og udfordre gennem interaktiv dialog under konferencen.
